This hospital and community health centre deliver site-specific structural solutions that reflect the context of the remote community of Burns Lake, BC.
Delivered through design-build, this two-storey healthcare facility includes acute care, emergency services, diagnostic imaging, a laboratory, pharmacy, and administration spaces. The building is embedded within a sloped site, providing sweeping views of the Village of Burns Lake while minimizing the building height bordering a residential neighbourhood. Views are accentuated with large expanses of curtain wall framed by glulam beams. The beams support exposed wood deck roofs at the entry points and above a central atrium lit by clerestory windows. Additional structural elements include concrete floors and steel roofs, while the select use of timber in feature areas brings visual warmth to the interior and speaks to the critical importance of the forestry industry in the community’s economy.
