Whistle Bend Continuing Care Facility is the largest infrastructure project ever completed in the Yukon.

Designed to be a community within a community, the new state-of-the-art Whistle Bend Continuing Care Facility in Canada’s northern city of Whitehorse provides 24-hour care to residents to meet the critical need for specialized care in the Yukon. Delivered as a design-build project with PCL Constructors Westcoast, this 150-bed facility accommodates medical offices, palliative care, mental health units, a healing room, workshop and activity spaces, laundry, staff, and administrative support in a three storey structure over one-level of underground parking. By implementing several innovative solutions, including modular construction, Bush Bohlman met an aggressive construction schedule in one of the world’s most extreme climate environments. The building required non-combustible construction which lead to using structural steel framing for economy, ability to fabricate off-site, and speed of erection to suit the short construction season in the Yukon. Heavy timber features in the main lobby and entrance canopies added warmth to enhance the residential feel of this large facility.
