Phase 1 (valued at $44 Million) consists of a 100,000 ft2 science and technology complex over three levels with central atriums, wet labs, dry labs, offices, lecture spaces, loading bays, extensive service rooms connected with underground tunnels. Concrete flat slab construction. A bridge links this building to the SFU Applied Sciences building. Timber construction for atrium feature roofs and sunshading structures. Extensive wet labs with manifold fume hold system.
Phase 2 (valued at $50 Million) includes a 120,000 ft2 science and technology complex over three levels with atriums, bridge links to adjacent buildings, classrooms, wet and dry laboratories, lecture rooms, offices and services spaces. There is a large animal care facility on the ground floor that serves the entire SFU campus. Structural design criteria included vibration-resistant floors for sensitive research equipment.
